A lifelong devotion to Kuchipudi
Prathyusha is the founder of Laasyam Kuchipudi Dance Academy. She started the academy with the aim of creating wider representation for Kuchipudi through performing, mentoring and teaching. Based in Guelph, Ontario, her strength lies in instilling dedication through rigorous practice — using fun, simple teaching methods that make the art accessible to everyone.
She began her dance journey at the age of four, learning Andhra Natyam and Bharatanatyam. In 2003 she began her Kuchipudi journey, studying Padma Bhushan Sri Vempati Chinnasatyam's style under the tutelage of Smt. Uma Devulapally, followed by Smt. Vimmi Eeswar and Smt. Padmavani Mosalikanti.
With a Master's in Quality Management, Prathyusha strives to balance home, work and dance. Having performed at prestigious festivals around the world, she is delighted to have found a place where she can pass down the knowledge of this vibrant, graceful art form to her students.
Trained in the Vempati Chinnasatyam tradition
The Vempati Chinnasatyam style is celebrated for its clarity of line, expressive abhinaya and a repertoire that ranges from rhythmic jathis to elaborate solo and group choreographies. Prathyusha carries this lineage forward at Laasyam, teaching with the same discipline and devotion she received from her own gurus.
Her approach blends the intensity of traditional Guru–Shishya training with warmth, patience and a genuine love of teaching — qualities her students' families return to again and again.
My daughter started learning Kuchipudi from Prathyusha garu a few months ago. She is an inspirational teacher and it's clear she loves to share her extensive knowledge with students of all ages and abilities. She will not tolerate anything other than perfection — and achieves it with enormous patience, kindness and empathy for the challenging needs of each student. This is very evident in the hard work my daughter is willing to commit to.
